Every number in BulkMetrik has its own meaning and limitations. This guide explains what each metric measures, where its data comes from, and how to read it to evaluate domains more accurately.
BMR score (BulkMetrik Rating)
BMR is a single score from 0–100 that combines a domain’s quality metrics into one easy-to-read number, then converts it into 0–5 stars. Use BMR to shortlist candidates, then review individual metrics, content, and backlinks before making a decision.
BMR is calculated from a weighted combination of Domain Rating (DR), Domain Authority (DA), and Page Authority (PA), with Spam Score as a deduction factor. DR has the greatest weight in the BulkMetrik formula.
BMR applies score caps as Spam Score increases so that strong authority metrics are assessed alongside spam indicators. These caps are part of the BulkMetrik scoring method.
The base BMR formula is (DR × 0.40) + (DA × 0.35) + (PA × 0.25) − (Spam Score × 0.30). The result is rounded to a whole number within 0–100, then the following caps apply.
- Spam Score above 50 caps BMR at 15.
- Spam Score above 30 and up to 50 caps BMR at 35.
- Spam Score above 15 and up to 30 caps BMR at 55.
For example, DR 50, DA 60, PA 40, and Spam Score 5 produce a BMR of 50, or 2.5 stars. Stars are calculated as BMR ÷ 20, rounded to the nearest 0.5.
Score levels
These categories are BulkMetrik’s internal assessment ranges. Star counts follow the actual score within each range and do not guarantee domain quality or safety.
Domain authority metrics
A score from 0–100 that indicates the strength of the backlink profile of a domain compared with other domains in the Ahrefs database. DR is a relative measure and is most useful for comparisons.
A score from 1–100 that predicts a domain’s potential to rank in search results. Higher DA indicates greater potential authority.
DA is comparative — it is more useful for comparing domains than as an absolute number. A DA of 40 can be very strong in one niche and ordinary in another.
Similar to DA, but it measures the strength of one specific page, rather than the whole domain. Useful for assessing the ranking potential of a particular page, such as an article or landing page.
Quality & risk
Moz Spam Score indicates the percentage of sites with similar characteristics that Moz found had been penalized or banned by Google. Use it to guide further review, not as proof that the domain being checked has a penalty.
Pay attention to the direction of the scale. Unlike other metrics, with Spam Score lower is better. A lower score indicates fewer signals in the Moz model. It does not guarantee a problem-free domain.
Backlinks & traffic
Backlink analysis shows links from the provider dataset. Coverage depends on available data and feature limits. The list may not include every link to a domain.
Review the relevance and quality of linking pages, including page context, anchor text, and link targets. Backlink count alone is not enough to assess domain quality.
An estimate of monthly visits from organic search, calculated by the data provider. This is not direct visit data from the website’s analytics.
Traffic is shown on the details page and does not affect the BMR score.
Domain identity
How long a domain has been registered, calculated from its official registration date. Age alone does not guarantee quality or search rankings. For subdomains, the age shown is that of the parent domain.
The IP address serving a domain when checked. Domains can share an IP through shared hosting or a CDN. A shared IP does not establish common ownership.
Data sources
Metrics are retrieved through provider integrations, including intermediary services. Results may use valid stored data. Traffic figures are provider estimates, not direct website analytics.
Developer of DA, PA, and Spam Score metrics for domain analysis.
Developer of DR and a provider of backlink data and organic traffic estimates.
BulkMetrik calculates BMR from DR, DA, PA, and Spam Score. Results may use valid stored data. Update schedules and data coverage can lead to differences from the source service.
Metric methodology is documented in the Ahrefs DR guide and Moz Spam Score guide.
How to interpret metrics correctly
- Do not rely on a single number. Review authority metrics alongside spam indicators, content relevance, and backlink quality.
- Compare against competitors in the same niche, rather than domains in unrelated industries.
- Review domain history especially if it has expired or been registered again. Registration age does not always reflect website history.
- Check server IP addresses to identify matching addresses. Consider hosting or CDN use before drawing conclusions about relationships between domains.
- Use BMR as an initial filter, then investigate detailed metrics for the candidates that pass.
These metrics are assessment tools, not ranking guarantees. None of them are official Google metrics.
